Why No-Tech Tuesday?

After a decade of marriage, Jody and I found ourselves in a rut where we spent our evenings decompressing from the pressures of life by mindlessly watching TV or scrolling through social media.

We sat on opposite ends of the couch each night and didn’t spend much time talking about anything beyond small talk. The two feet of couch between us might as well have been two miles. Although we occupied the same space, we were rarely present with one another.

Our commitment to unplug one night a week has made a life-changing impact in the quality of our marriage. Spending just two purposeful hours a week was the beginning of a radical transformation in our relationship. But one challenge we faced was finding something to talk about for two hours every week?

We had heard every story the other had in their repertoire (we assumed) and thought we knew each other pretty well. So we did studies together, combed through couples workbooks and scoured the internet to gather 6-8 questions per week to guide our conversations.

Through this site, I will be providing 52 conversation starters (currently under construction)– enough to get you through a year – that my wife and I used to reconnect with one another. If you have drifted into a comfort zone in your marriage, it’s time to get uncomfortable.

Growth and comfort do not coexist.Ginni Rometty, CEO of IBM
